I've watched prison break from season 1 all the way to the 4th season, just moments ago.You can see the photos that as the years went by,so did the characters. It took me about 3 years,to complete watching the series, but only now do i actually understand it.What they have been trying to get across all along.
The first thing one thinks of is family.Michael first decides to break his brother, who was accused of murdering the Vice-President's brother, which he evidently did not.He went through so many plans and challenges to successfully break his brother out, along with a few others that proved their worth or simply tagged along because they had caught wind of the plan and were going to tell if they did not follow. The tattoos on his back, for example, were actually maps of Fox River Penitentiary, the first of three prisons he was going to break out. After escaping Fox River, the 8 of them who did;Scofield,Lincoln,Sucre(His Cellmate),Abruzzi(The Mafia),T-Bag(The snitch),C-Note(the man who was framed),Apolskis(the young & skillfull thief who was murdered in the end) and Charles Westmoreland(who died as soon as he broke out due to a gunshot). They became the famous Fox River 8.
Michael began to find out why someone had framed his brother and he soon found out a bigger bigger scheme by a big organization called the Company, who had something very very grand up their sleeves that would destroy if not America, but the world.
Long story cut short Michael,Linc,Sucre and many more of old and new team was put in a Mexican prison called Sona, which he broke out again, and finally unravelled the Company's plan, which was called Scylla,an object that had a protection of 6 high-security cards, that would keep it safe in a secret place with secret security measures of all which Michael overcame in the end due to his incredible ingenuity. Then Sarah got caught in a Miami-Dade Penitentiary with the risk of being killed,so Michael broke her out, with a huge price.
He kept running and running, and running. And he kept outsmarting everyone in his way,in order to protect his family;his brother, his nephew, his love,Sarah Tancredi. They never stopped running and they tried everything they could so they could stop.So he gave up one thing that would eventually helped them.He sacrificed himself. So his family would live.
At first I thought the message was about family. How we should cherish them and protect them as the years go by because we might never know when they might leave. But no the answer was freedom.Michael didn't fight only for his family and friends,he fought for their freedom as well,as without it they wouldnt go anywhere.
As I watched the last words of Michael,I realized he thought me,us maybe, that freedom cannot be bought or sold or whatever.Freedom is a gift, and not a given right. We should cherish it,if we were to ever cherish anything else.
Michael died on the final episode of the show, sacrificing his life to save his wife and unborn child.I never believed in heroes, but tonight,Michael Scofield would be someone, even though he was just a character in a non-fiction show,i would remember and respect or the rest of my life.He fought for freedom, protected his family and upheld justice without raising a finger, but only with the power of his mind and the strength of his heart. He would be my hero.
Goodbye,Michael.Rest in Peace.
